The deal, valued at more than $157 million, will dramatically expand each company’s presence north of the border.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. and Bruegger’s Enterprises Inc. announced the purchase of Timothy’s Coffees of the World Inc. on Friday morning. Waterbury-based Green Mountain Coffee acquired the wholesale roasting business for $157 million, and Bruegger’s is absorbing the retail operation for an undisclosed sum. Bruegger’s marketing director, Tom Piper, called the transaction a “significant deal.”
